The Perfect Library – Week 2

What if I told you there’s such a thing as a perfect library?… Well, there is. The Bible.

I’ve been really intentional to tell people that the Bible is a Library, not a book. Why do I do that? Because that’s what it is? What’s the first thing you do when you walk into a library? You ask

Which book should I read first?

If the Bible is a book, you don’t ask that. You just start reading in the beginning. If someone recommends a book to you, you don’t say, where should I start reading? This is important because

Not all books of the Bible are equally applicable.

If you could only read one book of the Bible for the rest of your life, how many would pick Leviticus? They are all divinely inspired, but they’re not all as useful to new believers so here is how you should red the bible.

  • Start reading in Matthew.
  • Know the context.
  • Honor it
  • Read with a wise advisor.
  • Acquire the taste of Scripture.

If you will use the Bible as a guide to Jesus rather than as a tool to prove your points, it will lead you to depths you could never reach on your own. I Peter 1:23 says

For you have been born again, but not to a life that will quickly end. Your new life will last forever because it comes from the eternal, living word of God.

Without the Word of God, you cannot grow spiritually. Does that mean you can only grow by reading the Bible? No, people grew spiritually before the Bible, But the Bible is the primary way we hear the Word of God.

24 As the Scriptures say, “People are like grass; their beauty is like a flower in the field. The grass withers and the flower fades. 25 But the word of the Lord remains forever.” And that word is the Good News that was preached to you. I Peter 1:24-25
