Get Out Of The Boat
What if the greatest moments of your faith can only be experienced when you choose to Get Out Of The Boat?
In Week 3 of our Follower series, Pastor Mike Wilson walks us through Peter’s unforgettable moment on the water — a moment that shows us what happens when ordinary people take extraordinary steps toward Jesus.
The boat represents comfort, predictability, safety, and control.
The water represents trust, faith, risk, and obedience.
And Jesus calls Peter — and us — into something deeper than just staying where it feels safe.
This message challenges every follower of Jesus to take the same step Peter did:
Move toward Jesus even when it feels uncertain.
Key Scriptures & Themes
1. Jesus sometimes leads us into storms on purpose.
The disciples didn’t end up in the storm by accident — Jesus sent them there.
Sometimes God sends us into situations we would never choose, because storms reveal where our trust actually is.
(Matthew 14:22–24)
2. Fear blurs our vision, but Jesus brings clarity.
The disciples saw Jesus — but fear caused them to misinterpret Him.
When we’re overwhelmed, even God’s presence can look like a threat instead of hope.
(Matthew 14:25–27)
3. Faith begins with one bold request.
Peter didn’t ask for safety.
He asked for a calling:
“Lord, if it’s You, tell me to come to You.”
Faith doesn’t ask for calm waters — it asks for Jesus.
(Matthew 14:28)
4. You can’t walk on water unless you’re willing to leave the boat.
The miracle didn’t happen in the boat.
It happened when Peter obeyed and stepped out.
Following Jesus requires movement — and sometimes it means stepping into the impossible.
(Matthew 14:29)
5. When fear rises, Jesus reaches.
Peter began to sink, but Jesus didn’t let him drown.
Failure is not final when Jesus is near.
(Matthew 14:30–31)
6. The storm may not stop immediately, but Jesus is still in control.
The wind didn’t die down until they were back in the boat.

(Matthew 14:32)
