Doubt

Everyone will doubt. The question is — what will you do with it?

In this week’s message, Pastor CJ Ward unpacks what the Bible says about doubt—what it is, why it happens, and how to walk through it faithfully. Using real-life examples and 1 John 3, he reminds us that doubt isn’t the opposite of faith; it’s often the soil where deeper faith grows.

When doubt enters our lives—whether through intellectual questions or personal pain—God doesn’t shame us. Instead, He invites us to bring our questions to Him and to His people.

Key Scriptures

  • 1 John 3:19–24“If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and He knows everything.”

  • Matthew 28:17“They worshiped Him, but some doubted.”

  • Psalm 34:8“Taste and see that the Lord is good.”

  • Romans 8:1“There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”

  • 1 John 3:1“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!”

Big Truths from This Message

  • Doubt is normal.
Doubt shows up all over Scripture—from David to the disciples. Questioning doesn’t make you faithless; it makes you human.

  • There are two kinds of doubt: intellectual and personal.
Intellectual doubt asks “Is this true?” while personal doubt asks “Is this true for me?” Both are real—and God welcomes both.

  • The danger isn’t in the doubt—it’s in the condemnation.
The enemy uses shame to isolate us, whispering that our questions make us unworthy. But Scripture says, “God is greater than our hearts.”

  • Bring your doubt to God.
You don’t have to have it all figured out to come to Him. Honest questions are sacred ground—because truth always leads to Jesus.

  • Community helps us hold on when faith feels weak.
When we can’t believe for ourselves, the Holy Spirit works through others to believe for us. Sometimes the faith in your friend’s heart sustains you until your faith returns.

  • There is no condemnation in Christ.
Our hearts may accuse us, but God calls us His children. Even in our questioning, His love holds us steady.
